Paysage fictif intégrant l’onde sonore produite par l’écoute du troisième mouvement du Quatuor pour la fin du Temps, une œuvre musicale pour violon, violoncelle, clarinette et piano, en huit mouvements, du compositeur français Olivier Messiaen.

Le quatuor a été écrit par Messiaen alors qu’il était prisonnier de guerre au Stalag VIII-A, à Görlitz (ville frontalière de l’est de l’Allemagne) en 1940. Il y fut présenté pour la première fois le 15 janvier 1941 par quatre musiciens prisonniers, Étienne Pasquier au violoncelle, Jean Le Boulaire au violon, Henri Akoka à la clarinette et Messiaen lui-même au piano devant un auditoire de 400 prisonniers.

Le troisième mouvement intitulé L’abîme des oiseaux est joué par la clarinette en solo. Il a été écrit précédemment pour Henri Akoka, et ajouté à l’œuvre ensuite. Seul musicien de confession juive de ce quatuor d’infortune, Akoka a dû fuir et a réussi à vivre caché en France jusqu’à la fin de la guerre.

Fictional landscape integrating the sound wave produced by listening to the third movement of the Quartet for the End of Time, a musical work for violin, cello, clarinet and piano, in eight movements, by the French composer Olivier Messiaen.

The quartet was written by Messiaen while he was a prisoner of war at Stalag VIII-A in Görlitz (border city of eastern Germany) in 1940. It was first played on January 15, 1941 by four musicians prisoners, Étienne Pasquier on the cello, Jean Le Boulaire on the violin, Henri Akoka on the clarinet and Messiaen himself on the piano in front of an audience of 400 prisoners.

The third movement titled The Abyss of Birds is played by the solo clarinet. It was written previously for Henri Akoka, and added to the work afterwards. Only musician of Jewish confession of this quartet of misfortune, Akoka had to flee and managed to live hidden in France until the end of the war.
