ÉCHO — Série photographique

Cette série d’oeuvres photo-numériques est constituée de photographies de paysages auxquels j’intègre des formes d’ondes acoustiques évoquant les contours d’une île, d’un rivage, d’une forêt ou d’une ville telles qu’on pourrait les apercevoir à l’horizon en situation de contre-jour. L’onde intégrée au paysage est produite par l’écoute d’extraits de discours, de poèmes, de manifestes ou d’œuvres musicales considérées comme collectivement ou personnellement marquants. 

Pour chaque image, je sélectionne un enregistrement dont la portée et la pertinence trouvent une certaine résonance dans l’actualité ou l’histoire récente. Comme si certaines voix, paroles, œuvres avaient le pouvoir d’être constitutives de notre tissu social et culturel, comme de l’horizon de nos possibles. Certaines résonnent encore aujourd’hui du fait de leur importance historique. Leurs représentations schématisées sous la forme d’onde, en même temps que leurs réinterprétations sous la forme d’un paysage proposent une relecture poétique et socio-historique de leurs portées dans la construction de notre paysage social et culturel.

En plus d’une analogie formelle entre les formes naturelles et les formes d’ondes, je propose un rapprochement entre culture et nature, rappelant les liens intrinsèques qui nous unissent physiquement mais aussi intellectuellement et émotionnellement à notre environnement naturel de même qu’à l’espace politique, social et culturel.

ECHO — Photo Series

Acoustic waveforms evoking the contours of an island, a shore, the edge of a forest or a city are superimposed on different minimalist landscapes. The wave embedded in the landscape comes from the recording of a speech or musical excerpt considered collectively or personally striking. Metaphorically one can say of the echo that it extends, returns, reverberates, repeats, responds, resounds, recalls, traces or marks. Thus, I select different recordings of speeches or musical works whose scope and relevance still find some resonance today.

The photomontage thus confers a visibility and a materiality on the scale of the landscape to these recordings, immaterial but highly symbolic and determining objects of our collective and individual memories. As if certain voices, words, works had the power to be constitutive of our social and cultural fabric, as of the horizon of our possibilities. Some still resonate today because of their historical importance. Their schematic representations in the form of a sound wave, together with their reinterpretations in the form of a landscape, offer a poetic and socio-historical reinterpretation of their scope in the construction of our social and cultural landscape. I freely establish here a rapprochement between culture and nature, recalling at once the intrinsic links which unite us physically but also intellectually and emotionally to our natural environment as well as to the political, social and cultural context.
