Emma Lazarus (1849-1887) est une poétesse américaine née aux États-Unis, fille de parents Juifs sépharades portugais dont les familles s’étaient installées à New York depuis des générations. Elle est principalement connue pour son poème The New Colossus un sonnet écrit en 1883, gravé sur une plaque de bronze installée en 1903, quinze ans après sa mort dans une paroi du socle de la Statue de la Liberté.

Emma Lazarus (1849-1887) is an American poet born in the United States, daughter of Jewish Sephardic Portuguese parents whose families had been living in New York for generations. She is best known for her poem The New Colossus, a sonnet written in 1883, engraved on a bronze plaque installed in 1903, fifteen years after her death in a wall of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty.
